Hi Finn, it's important to remember that the WI is a federal organisation. It's only Hampshire Federation that "back brothels", it's not a campaign supported by the National Federation of Women's Institutes, which is a member of EVAW.

Yes the WI identified tackling violence against women as one of their priorities this year and have long been a member of the End Violence Against Women Coalition (EVAW)

And they manage all this despite the antics of their Hampshire branch, who are going around the country advocating the legalisation of brothels. I recently debated this with one of their members at a Student Union debate at Royal Holloway University. The speaker talked of the importance of STI testing for women in prostitution so that men wouldn't pass diseases to their unknowing wives and cause 'the breakup of families'. I was the only speaker that raised the idea that men's demands for women and children in prostitution might not be natural or biological and should be challenged. The WI speaker was more concerned with women's 'human right' to 'work' in prostitution. I expect new campaigns around people's human right to sell a kidney into the global trade in body organs or 'work' in a sweatshop...
